Haysville School District is able to offer a half day Early Childhood Program to eligible children who are three or four-years old on or before August 31.

To be eligible, the child must have attended a Count Your Kid In Screening and the child or child’s family must meet at least one qualifying factor in the below list.

  • Single-parent family
  • Qualify for free or reduced lunch
  • Limited English proficiency
  • Either parent lacking high school diploma or GED
  • Teen parent family
  • Child qualifies for migrant status
  • DCF referral
  • Lower than expected developmental progress

There are a limited number of openings, meeting an eligibility requirement does not guarantee enrollment. There are also a limited number of openings for in district four-year old children who do not meet any of the eligibility criteria of the grant. Children who do not meet a grant criteria are added to a waitlist after attending a Count Your Kid in Screening. A lottery system is used to select 4-year old students for attendance from the waitlist.

In order to be eligible to attend any preschool program in our district, the child is expected to have attended a Count Your Kid in Screening. Click on the "CYKI Screening Sign-Up" button below, under the Count Your Kid In Clinic section, to sign up for a free screening today.

A Day at Early Childhood

A day in an Early Childhood classroom includes engaging large and small group activities with songs, rhymes, stories, calendar time, and an introduction to the alphabet, letter sounds, colors, shapes, numbers and patterning. Learning centers provide children opportunities to participate in enrichment activities that build on the skills taught during large and small group. The children develop reading, writing, math and motor skills along with creative expression through art and dramatic play. Classroom activities also allow children opportunities to problem-solve, share and develop positive social skills.

Our Curriculum

Curriculum in the Early Childhood Program is aligned with the Kansas Early Learning Standards and with the Haysville Kindergarten curriculum to help students learn the skills they need to be ready for Kindergarten and to facilitate a smooth academic transition from the Early Childhood setting to Kindergarten.

Our Staff

Our Early Childhood teachers have college degrees and are licensed by the Kansas State Department of Education. Para-educators assist teachers in each classroom to create fun, supportive environments which encourage children to learn and grow. To help promote the success of each child, we believe our staff need to be life-long learners also. All of the early childhood staff annually participate in a minimum of twenty inservice hours.

Learning is not a spectator sport, so let's PLAY!

Free Screenings

Count Your Kid In Clinics screen children’s hearing and vision. Children are also screened in the developmental areas of language, academic concepts and motor skills. The screening helps with early identification of potential delays and is required for enrollment in the Haysville Pre-Kindergarten Program. Count Your Kid In screenings are offered monthly free of charge to all  children ages 3-5 who are interested in attending our Pre-Kindergarten program or who live within the district boundaries and have developmental concerns.  Use the link below to sign up for a free screening.
